You have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people bringing beauty and a unique image to every project you have worked on. \u00a0I would like to know more about you!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>1.\u00a0 Where are you located and what have you been working on?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2258 size-medium alignright\" style=\"padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_4417-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4417\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_4417-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_4417.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>I\u2019m based in Los Angeles, New York and London.\u00a0\u00a0I travel a lot but I am originally from the East Coast (USA).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I started working as a hairstylist in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>My background is as a sculptor and metalsmith so I have had my hands in the arts for many years. \u00a0When I decided to go back to school I attended <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toniguy.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Tony &amp; Guy Hair Academy<\/a> and I thought I would be working in a salon but I\u2019ve found there are many creative options in this field. \u00a0I\u2019ve been working on sets and doing hair and makeup for music videos, tv\/film, backstage runway for fashion weeks (London, Paris, NYC), teaching workshops, and in print doing photoshoots for fine art and ad campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>I love having the opportunity to meet and work with new people all the time.\u00a0 Sometimes I produce and assemble the teams, which is cool.\u00a0\u00a0I find that by working with various teams we can generate bigger ideas together.\u00a0\u00a0We expand our ideas when we can build off each other\u2019s creativity which is the beauty of the process to me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Have you worked in a traditional salon?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2260 \" style=\"padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_4415-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4415\" width=\"230\" height=\"402\" \/>I got a running start at at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kristoffballsalon.com\">Kristoff Ball\u2019s salon in Beverly Hills<\/a> apprenticing.\u00a0\u00a0I can see myself eventually being salon based full time but for now I travel so much and have an amazing client base internationally and enjoy what I get to do.\u00a0Fast-paced environments is where I really thrive and find my focus.\u00a0\u00a0I still do cuts and color though and guest spot in salons.\u00a0 It\u2019s a nice setup when I can rent a chair for as little or as long as I need.<\/p>\n<p>What I love about working with traditional clients is it&#8217;s all about the interpersonal relationships.\u00a0 I get to help make someone else feel magic and their day bright.\u00a0 It&#8217;s about the trust, being their best friend when in my chair and the transformation from the inside out.\u00a0 &#8220;I love what I get to do&#8221; and I say it like that for a reason.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a very cool opportunity to be able to do this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Do you cut your own hair?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m gonna be honest and say yes and I never learn my lesson. *Blush* I&#8217;m a risktaker when it comes to my own hair but thankfully I&#8217;ve got skilled and talented friends I trust like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.styleseat.com\/v\/maidencolor\">Reina DeMoss<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/maidencolor\/\">MaidenColor<\/a> in LA and Rolando Aqui (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/rolando.aqui\" target=\"_blank\">Geometric Illusions<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/26vDje0yNlA\" target=\"_blank\">Sugarskulls Hair House LA<\/a>) to get my hairgame strong if I happen to get scissor happy.\u00a0Haha.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0 Can you tell us about your art?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2202 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/portrait.jpg\" alt=\"portrait\" width=\"400\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/portrait.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ninjagirl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/portrait-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>I\u2019ve worked in many different mediums from metalsmithing and welding to printmaking.\u00a0\u00a0I love working with both steel and silver \u2013from building large scale installations to jewelry.\u00a0\u00a0I also create photo etchings, silkscreen, and have many creative outlets &#8211; even sewing.\u00a0\u00a0I have an immense love for art history too.<\/p>\n<p>I spent a year abroad in London first doing sculpture, silversmithing and print making.\u00a0 I received my bachelors when I was 20 &#8211; I just focused on my studies and didn&#8217;t have the time for anything else.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. And how about hair?\u00a0 How did you get started in hairdressing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2259 \" style=\"padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px;\" 100vw, 170px\" \/>I was a hair model at Vidal Sassoon when I was studying at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gold.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Goldsmith\u2019s University of London<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arts.ac.uk\/camberwell\/\" target=\"_blank\">Camberwell College of Art<\/a> in the UK.\u00a0 I was discovered\u00a0by a Japanese hair student while I was walking in the Tube and he brought me in to do model cuts, color, and catwalk.\u00a0\u00a0It was a fun way to make money and I met a lot of cool people.\u00a0\u00a0Fast forward ten years down the road and I realized I wanted to be a hairstylist too.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s all sculpture to me but with an added component of interpersonal transformation where I enjoy blending art and beauty. \u00a0I loved doing it whether it was a student cut and color or a soir\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0 How did you get involved with makeup?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I realized that there is no one way to define beauty.\u00a0\u00a0Makeup is about self-expression. \u00a0This means everything from eyeliner to tattoos is part of a person&#8217;s identity.\u00a0\u00a0So it became\u00a0something I could do for others.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s fascinating how a makeover can feel and how it is received and the effect\u00a0it has on empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Every day I get the opportunity to make something creative.\u00a0 I get to ask a lot of questions and learn a lot about the people I meet. \u00a0I seize the opportunity to impact people&#8217;s lives in a positive way. \u00a0I do not want to just exist in a world already created for us.\u00a0 This is the interesting part: \u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/EpyAJuJE4p0\" target=\"_blank\">Learning about people and expressing what is beautiful in someone is an imperative for me from the inside out.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v5COdwWTHBg?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>7.\u00a0 Can you talk about the work you have done with professional photographers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of the photographers who I\u2019ve gotten to work with are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reneerobynphotography.com\/\">Renee Robyn<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vonwong.com\/\">Ben Von Wong<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellakotak.com\/\">Bella Kotak<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkbeautymag.com\/tag\/topher-adam\/\">Topher Adam<\/a>, Jason Abbott and <a href=\"http:\/\/ideasandimages.co.uk\/\">Dave Kai Piper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Every photographer works differently and has their individual style and strengths.\u00a0\u00a0 It is important to have a wide spectrum of ability and style \u2013 be in tune with what someone is asking for.<\/p>\n<p>I worked on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vonwong.com\/uv\/\">Ultraviolet Insanities<\/a><\/em> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vonwong.com\/\">Benjamin Von Wong<\/a>\u00a0doing\u00a0hair. \u00a0It was a really strong team of people. \u00a0I got to see how each photographer made each model an individual.\u00a0 He has some amazing ways of doing things.\u00a0 He worked with an artist who works with ultraviolet light and stencils.\u00a0 I was making hair extensions.\u00a0 A lot of the stuff I made I created before the shoot.\u00a0 One of the models was from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ANTM\/\">America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/a>, another from Fashion Week.\u00a0 One of the assistants was someone I already knew, Kelly Zak, who did an awesome job with editing.\u00a0 Ben knows how to bring strangers together and make something significant.\u00a0 He makes something class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dinah Raphaelle with Tomoka Kawasaki and Takato Yonemoto<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I travelled with him and did <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vonwong.com\/extraordinarycredo40\/\"><em>From Ordinary to Extraordinary<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0How the costumes are put together was fascinating.\u00a0 The wings were fully articulated.<\/p>\n<p>I have also worked with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reneerobynphotography.com\/\">Renee Robyn<\/a>.\u00a0 I have her to thank for so much \u2013 she was the one who introduced me to Ben.\u00a0 We had worked with model Kat Maranello and her husband Ryan Doherty, who works in IT with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smugmug.com\/\">Smugmug<\/a> \u2013 it\u2019s an amazing company.\u00a0 It offers unlimited cloud and web hosting.<\/p>\n<p>The goal was to make Ryan appear nerdy and then transform into a hunk.\u00a0 He has the hobby of racecar driving and building up racecars.\u00a0 It was a really masculine shoot.\u00a0 We made it just as nerdy as possible.\u00a0 We pulled up his socks and then we did the shoot. \u00a0 We used airbrushes, etc.\u00a0 There were sparks flying!\u00a0 I did hair, makeup, and styling.\u00a0 I got to get the props from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hEJnMQG9ev8\">Mad Max Fury Road<\/a><\/em> for the shoot!<\/p>\n<p>Renee Robyn in super-inspiring.\u00a0 I got to work with her a lot.\u00a0 I really respect her and I always bring my all and raise the bar for myself.\u00a0 If you give it your all you know it is all on you.\u00a0 I bring the gift right back and give her something she is looking for.<\/p>\n<p>I try to bring out the style in a way that is truest to the work I see the photographers envisioning for the client.\u00a0 It allows me to bring something new and exciting to each photographer, image, workshop, or event I work with. \u00a0We all inspire each other and I can bring something different to each photographer I work with.\u00a0 It is important to about music videos? Taking a look at my past work I often define my portfolio as falling into two categories. There\u2019s the beautiful clean agency work for ad campaigns or headshots, then there\u2019s the other side of the coin.\u00a0 That\u2019s the creative, avant garde work that\u2019s more about fine art. \u00a0When I work with creative people like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellakotak.com\/\">Bella Kotak<\/a>, her photography style evokes a soft dream-like feel that is uplifting and ethereal. Ben Von Wong\u2019s work is visually epic and filled with this \u201clarger than life\u201d excitement and zest.\u00a0 Renee Robyn\u2019s work is both badass and so damn pretty, it\u2019s a vortex of story-packed pixels that create her final image.\u00a0 It feels so\u2026alive. Observing and relating different cultures is key.
